Rafael "Rafa" Nadal Parera (born June 3, 1986) is a Spanish professional tennis player who currently holds the world no. 1 ranking. He has won six Grand Slam singles titles (1 Australian Open, 4 French Open, 1 Wimbledon), and the 2008 Olympic gold medal in singles. Nadal is considered by many as the best clay court men's tennis player of all-time, but some think the best is Björn Borg with six clay court titles at The French Open compared to Nadal's 4, but this has garnered Nadal the nickname The King of Clay.
Nadal was ranked World No. 2 behind Roger Federer for a record 160 weeks before earning the top spot. Nadal has won 13 of their 20 singles matches. As a result of his performances during the year, Nadal secured the year-end No.1 ranking on August 18, 2008. The same year, he was given the prestigious Prince of Asturias Award for his achievements in sports.
